Making travel arrangements over the telephone is not as difficult as it seems. Obviously the Internet is making this even easier, but a large number of establishments are not yet connected. You can of course write for information and send a written booking in, but if you require speed then the telephone or a fax machine are essential. A fluent command of French is not required but if you only know a few words (like me!) then make sure you are polite and make an effort to speak the native language.

PHRASE BOOKS
It is well worth buying a phrase book and learning as much French as you can before your visit, then using as much of your as much of your vocabulary as you can while in France.
