Normandy, France

Nord - Pas de Calais
Often overlooked as a travel destination in its own right, this region has a lot more more than ferry ports, industry and Hypermarkets. The area within 2 hours of the Channel Tunnel has much to offer the traveller, from sombre battlefields to amusement parks and from beautiful rural landscapes to history laden towns and cities. Visit the Cote d'Opale with its scenic coastline and sandy beaches.

Nord Pas de Calais

Look up the kite festival at Berck-sur-Mer. Take part in your favourite sport such as a round of golf on one of Le Touquet's courses,or sample a new one such as sand yachting.Indulge youreself with sea water therapy at one of the centres. At night you can spend your excess cash in the Casinos, if you have any left.

Le Touquet

Visit Lille, a city of youth due, to its many universities. Although smaller than Paris, it is a viable alternative, with its shops and museums. Pay a visit in the first weekend in September for the world renowned Braderie (Street Market) and savour the mussells and chips on offer in the restaurants as you look for antiques and bric a brac.
Lille
The region has an abundance of hotels and restaurants catering for all pockets and tastes. The area has plenty of Hypermarkets and shops where cross channel travellers can stock up with provisions and luxuries cheaper than home.

Don't miss Nausicca for France's foremost Sea Life Centre but have a walk around the Boulogne Old Town before you leave. Calais, Dunkirk, Arras and Cambrai are also worth a visit for their museums and attractions.

Calais
Put on your walking boots and take to the trails along the Cap Griz Nez and Cap Gris Blanc. Alternatively sample the tracks around the Flanders' hills. Throughout the Centuries, the area has been the battleground for armies from all over Europe. The battlefields of Crecy, Agincourt (Azincourt),Notre Dame de Lorrette and Vimy Ridge, can be visited to remind us of the horrors of war.

Agincourt

It was here that the bulk of Hitler's sea defences were built to repel an allied invasion, the remains of which still stand like lichen covered teeth. Inland blockhouses stand and secret bases stand as witness to Hitler's vengeance weapons V1, V2 and V3.
