Monarch Airlines have chosen their own path in the cut throat / cut service "no frills" price war. They have kept some of the "frills" that make the flying experience a bit more humane. These have been drawn up into the Monarch Passenger manifesto and include:
- Allowing passengers to pre-book seats including seats with an extra 150mm of legroom on each flight. This saves the mad scramble and pushing and shoving during boarding.
- Complimentary tea and coffee
- Hot towels and newspaper on each trip.
- One extra member of cabin crew above the legal minimum
All of this does not cost much, but makes the passenger experience that much better than most of their competition. Above all it does not mean that they do not offer cheap air fares. On their homepage they have a bargain flight of the day. Today for example, this is Manchester to Barcelona, on 27 February 2006. These are on sale for 8.61 one way excluding taxes and charges (29.99 inclusive).
