Alitalia bids for failed budget airline

Alitalia SpA the Italian flag carrying airline has stated that if its bid for Volare is accepted, it will become the company's low cost airline. Alitalia has bid €38 million for Volare, the failed Italian budget airline. Alitilia is not accepting any of Volare's debt.

Acquiring Volare would give Alitalia a ready made low cost operator. It plans to manage Volare as a separate entity to the main airline. In addition to Volare the purchase includes the Volareweb and Air Europe brands as well as slots at Milan's Linate Airport, five leased aircraft and 700 airline employees.
