German air traffic control to be sold off
Deutsche Flujsicherung (DFS) (nothing to do with furniture) the German Air Traffic Control is attracting bidders to take over the operation. A consortium of Lufthansa and TUI, possibly with Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport, Munich Airport, Hochtief and Air Berlin are tipped as likely to make a bid.
They are keen to see Air Traffic Control mantained under German control.
TUI are concerned that a single company takes control and uses its monopoly position to raise air traffic control charges to its German competitors. I suppose they might still raise charges for carriers from outside Germany though.
The German government has plans to privatise DFS by offering 74.9% to private investors in 2006.
